Frequently Asked Questions
What ages do you teach?
From child to adult, the youngest student we can take for voice or acting lessons is 8 years of age. The voice, and vocal cords in general are still in early development so we need to be gentle on the younger voice while still being able to train. Students will need to be able to focus for a minimum 30 minute session. There is no upper age limit. From the absolute beginner to the professional, we are here to help all levels and abilities.
What styles of music do you teach?
From classical to pop, rock, country, jazz, opera and musical theatre. Whatever style you are interested in, we are here to help.
How long is the lesson?
That's entirely up to you! We have 30, 45 and 60 minute lessons available. As a beginner, or younger student, it is recommended to take a 30 minute lesson, this also works for those who have a busy schedule. The more advanced you become the longer the session you can manage. This also purely depends on student ability and focus.
Can I reschedule a lesson?
A minimum of 24 hours notice is required to reschedule a lesson. There are no refunds. You will be offered a make up credit if you need to move a lesson which can be used for up to 90 days after issue. Rescheduled lessons are strictly subject to availability. If you are ill, it is highly recommended to reschedule your lesson to avoid getting anyone else sick if you have a cold, flu or other communicable illness.
Can you help prepare me for an audition?
Absolutely! As a professional performer myself, I can help prepare you for that important audition. Whether it is for a school show, community production, college application, or professional audition, I can help you with your musical selection and cuts.
Do you teach anything else?
Yes! I also teach beginner piano. So if you are interested in piano lessons, please do get in touch via the contact page - the youngest age intake for piano students is 8 years of age, there is no upper age limit.
I don't read music, is that a problem?
Not at all. As part of your training, I will teach you the basics of how to read music, ear pitch, music theory, and the fundamentals of reading music as a vocalist. You'd be surprised how many professional singers actually do not read music..! We can work with lyric sheets or sheet music, your choice.
How do I start?
Simply go to the contact page and fill out the form! Once the form is received we will be in touch to set up your lessons at a day and time that works for you.
What are the lesson plans?
Lesson plans are on a month to month basis and price is based on one lesson per week, so you are not locked in to any lengthy term. We do require a two week notice to cancel your lesson plan.
Lesson plans can only be cancelled in writing to: info@jensenfreemantheaterarts.com
There are no registration or sign up fees.
Are there any other costs I should know about?
Students are responsible for purchasing sheet music, script and/or lesson books which can be purchased at the studio. Lyric sheets for voice lessons are provided free of charge as are monologue pieces for acting lessons.
Is there anything else I should know?
Students should bring water/juice in a sealable bottle, cup or flask to stay hydrated. A pen or pencil, a notepad, book or tablet device to make notes. If there is anything specific you would like to know, please do get in touch either via the contact page or via email.
